I don't think "he hates the kid". Yes the kid was badly behaved, so he was annoyed, but more important was that he was freaking out over seeing his mother's face on that woman. He might panic and try to run away from the scene, rather than call for help. I think it might be a plot device to show how he reacted with his own mother's death
