I'm not sure if you're being stupid but you do know that Korean society are more homophobic, right? Japan has laws protecting the lgbt community and some prefectures even has laws legalizing same sex marriage while Korea on the other hand still treat homosexuality like a disease. Being gay is even a ground for being discharge in Korea. If kpop celebrities are asked if they're gay, they will say they're NORMAL instead of just dismissing the claim .
Just because you have a less stereotypical author doesn't mean it REFLECTS the whole society.
Korean Manhwa seem far less homophobic than Japanese Manga. Some are crazy, sure, but the main characters seem to actually identify as gay in manhwa vs straight-except-for-this-one-guy and a male/female dynamic shown in manga. The Koreans show that it can be done!
