Yes! Just recently I learned that my mom who I've always known to be bad with recognizing people has this condition. Apparently she doesn't even know my face, but identifies me by other features and trademarks. It was shocking!
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think his condition is called Prosopagnosia caused as a result of brain trauma can be retrained to use other clues to identify individuals. “Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder characterized by the inability to recognize faces. Prosopagnosia is also known as face blindness or facial agnosia.” - Wikipedia
