I just finished reading the raws, so basically I'm confused. Like whuuuut?! I kinda feel like there are 2 endings?!
lol I read this so long ago I didn't remember what this was about so I had to go back to check the ending. No, the epilogue is something that happened in the past, when Haruto was still in college.
Ok, after this it's spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the raws
The ending is pretty clear. Ren's adoptive dad took him away after finding out that the guy he asked to keep an eye on Ren was actually abusing Ren.
Ren decided to leave because he didn't want to be a burden to Haruto. He couldn't possibly ask Haruto to take him in and support him financially, since Ren was still in high school and Haruto wasn't rich. I think Haruto might've even been struggling a bit financially actually, can't remember that well. After leaving, the contact between them was completely cut.
Then after years (don't remember how many and too lazy to check) Ren finally came back. THE END.
LIKE WHAT? AT LEAST SHOW THEIR REUNION GOD DAMN IT!
