You know how some people own pets but neglect them? As soon as someone says that they need to put the pet in a better home or in a shelter, they get upset because it's THEIR pet. Maybe that's him?
He's attracted to Jiho and always has been. He could treat Jiho kind of badly and Jiho would still wait eagerly. And, he knows Jiho would NEVER out him. I think he did like Jiho, just in a self serving kind of way.
Or maybe the author just didn't know what to do with his character? She also kind of dropped the whole mind reading thing with no explanation

here you have this guy who dumped you in middle school because he was afraid to be himself and then he randomly decides to come back into your life for no other reason other than he doesn't want you to be happy, even though he already ruined your life. i know there are assholes who are just assholes for no reason but i find the ex actively trying to ruin jihos life even though he doesn't and never did like jiho really strange. it would have made more sense for the ex to actually have been in love with jiho at one point making his acts of evil a result of ealousy that jiho was able to move on and accept his sexuality. instead he doesn't like jiho and never did and just wants jihos life to suck??
