I don't know that this is accurate. I blame the author for making this so messy but it seems like on of two things. Either Sangwoo did save him from being abused one time, but it didn't take and he was still abused by that other soldier. Or Sangwoo did save Bum and then took the rapists place. I think what we were seeing was Sangwoo raping Bum, and Bum's twisted mind turning it into a romance. The letter he reads is juxtaposed with images of him being assaulted and I don't think that's an accident. We see him being forced to give a blow job while saying he was relieved someone wanted to touch him. And at the end of the letter we see Sangwoo's face. So I get why OP is confused. It's late as fuck to be bringing to light that Sangwoo raped Bum OR that Bum was never actually saved by Sangwoo and was still assaulted.

Sangwoo saved him from their first rape attempt on Bum, that's why Bum looked so shocked there. In the panels of the new chapter though, it shows that they didn't stop and still regularly raped Bum there.

He may have rape bum it's not clear so saying it like he didn't is so fustrating. Everyone wants Sangwoo to be a hero but he isn't I feel like it makes more sense that he save bum from be rapped just to rape him. You know how sangwoo works nobody out does him. I feel like what two others have said sangwoo saved him but rapped him as well. It's not hard to believe if your not a hardcore sangwoo fan.

I'm with you. It's really hard to tell based on just what we saw. Sangwoo looked like a different person in the military with dark hair, so it's like, is that him, or is that someone else? The uniform makes it so hard to say one way or the other. Plus Bum masturbating to the memory gives no clues. He's seriously fucked in the head, so I can't tell if he's trying to impose the memory of Sangwoo onto his rapist, or if he's getting off to his rape because it was Sangwoo who raped him. Though I don't have an issue with the way he works out his trauma (some do try to take power back from their assaults in this way). It's just frustrating not to know.

I'm pretty sure Sangwoo will be "redeemed" just enough for us to be sad if he dies. He's no hero, but he is being set up as damaged and the mystery is whether his damage will make room for Bum. I don't see how anyone is going to get out of this alive but Bum, and if he does live he's gonna be a mess. A happy ending seems out of reach. though it could happen just to fuck with our heads and freak us out. It seems like the author is setting it up so we feel something if it's an unhappy ending.

I don't think Bum was getting off to his rape even if it was Sangwoo.
He mastrubated because he probably still thinks Sangwoo saved him, which yes, he did, but in he panels it clearly shows that Bum was still getting raped there.
So either Sangwoo simply didn't know about Bum still getting raped by these assholes or it was really Sangwoo in the panel who raped him and Bum's brain shoved that memory away, because;
1.Bum doesn't know what real love is and;
2.To reduce Bum's trauma as a self projection.

Maybe it's not a perfect choice of words, but it's kind of hard to find a better one. Bum recalls Sangwoo, Bum masturbates, Bum recalls memories of his rape, Bum them recalls sex with Sangwoo. So it's messy, and that's probably the point, but I think my point is that Bum is so far down the trauma ladder that separating his lust for Sangwoo from his repeated and consistent sexual assaults -- which Sangwoo also contributed to -- isn't so easy.

True. His mind is confessing him because while Bum indeed knows how horrible rape can be(uncle), Sangwoo saving him from rape, but also probably raping him there must've fucked w/ his mind. He loves Sangwoo and does realize when Woo is raping him, but the next day he always acts like nothing happend again. And that's because of his love for him, because he showed him kindness&affection and that's enough for Bum to fall for someone since he never had any from anyone.
