I am sure they do love him but they are ashamed of him as well. How difficult to deal with these conflicting emotions for a growing boy/girl. I am glad the author allowed YY the chance to at least air his grievances to his father. There will never be any type of reconciliation with his parents unless they can talk openly and honestly about their feelings - unfortunately this is one the hardest things to do. V upsetting chapter.

Yep. Everybody here keeps saying how awful the parents are.. I can imagine much worse, actually. YuYang will need to fight his way through to his parents a little bit more, tough, but..
My parents were much less understanding at everything, I didn´t even have to deal with such difficult issues as being gay or anything, they just rolled over me- things had to be their way, no discussion allowed otherwise I was a bad egg. Vocabulary just in terms of: you must, have to, mustn´t, don´t... Every tiny dicision meant a family dispute and...
Considering this is meant to be happening in China, I would expact much more of a
fight.
Ok...this last two chapters...were very hard to read.i'm a gay guy as well and what made these chapters painful for me so much is because they aren't even a little bit exaggerated, everything that happaned to Yuyang is so realistic and pretty much happens with every gay in real life(not to mention in traditional countries)and yes, i do think that his parents love him .Why would his father slapped him?It was obvious that what Yang said hurt him. It's just that they are also under pressure of the retarded society and their norms and expectations. If they really were disgusted by him they would have just disowned him,cut all ties with him,and simply had another child long ago
