Actually when I was explaining this yaoi to my mom I was like and it's called BL Motel he shortened it to BL!!!*roars of laughter* and the owner doesn't know why gay couples are showing up *continuous stream of laughter* and my mom looked at me and was like, why is that funny? What's so funny about that? And I was like mom because it's BL and she was like....whats that supposed to mean? And I said well in the story it's short for Ballentine but it's an abbreviation for Boys Love and she started snickering and said oh I get it lol and I'm like yaaaassss lol
I guess we only know what BL is because we love reading them lol. And people who don't read don't have a clue what it is.

BL is a niche genre in the already niche genre of manga, gay is just a generally recognized thing worldwide, can't blame him too much.
