All the gore you could want in a story

Is the anime worth watching?

It's fine, but personally, no it doesn't even follow the main storyline of the manga. It skips scenes like no orher.

No not really, if you have a lot of time on your hands, then sure. Anime isn't as cool but it does make the action come to life, just not as much gore. ╥﹏╥
