What?!? Excuse me?!? Couldn't do anything for your brother...what?? BULLSHIT!! Once you are an adult you make your own decisions. You could have reached out to him when you became an adult and working. Parents should only advise not make decisions for you. Whatever job & life you made for yourself they obviously did not have a hand in it so cannot threatened to take it from you if you had decided to contact your brother....why wait till he is dead?? Stupid man!! Aside from that idiotic point it actually is a very cute story!

As he said at first he agreed with the parents. Probably his brother's death made him change his mind.

Personally, I completely agree with your sentiment. However, I also understand where Yoshiki is coming from. I'm going to assume by your screen name that you're from the US and I am betting you are under 40. So, you may not be aware of just how far and how fast our country has changed perspectives on homosexuality. My brother came out to me when I was 7. That was in 1977 and believe me when I tell you, being gay then was hell. Homosexual people had this sliver of hope with all the non-discrimination laws being passed over the last decade or so, but sexual orientation wasn't actually added to that law until 1982 or 84. And let's be real, that can't make laws about how your friends and family treat you as a person. They can stop them from physically harming you or preventing you from getting a job or a home, but they can't make them accept you and love you. And they can't keep strangers from treating you like a leper or like you don't exist. This was our own country just 40 short years ago. And there were plenty of people who felt homosexuality was an abomination - hell, there still are - but now it is socially unacceptable to voice that opinion. We have grown by leaps and bounds in this country in 40 years. Japan is about 50 years behind us on this subject. Maybe closer to 30 because they accept the existence of homosexuality but view it as a fetish rather than an intrinsic part of a person's being. Although we imagine Japan as this huge economical and technological titan, socially, they still exist in the 40's and 50's of our country. Hell, they still employ the concept of eugenics! In other words, they sterilize the members of the society they have deemed to have weak blood or weak genes. Proof of this is the law that was upheld in January 2019 that states that in order for a trans person to change their sex on legal documents they must submit for sterilization. Now, in the case of male to female transitions, this is par for the course of treatment and the surgery required for a full transition. However, for a female to male, surgical sterilization is not necessarily required. Yet, the law applies to them as well. They are attempting to eliminate the "transgender gene" by eliminating their ability to reproduce. Knowing this, how do you think they view homosexuality? They have no anti-discrimination laws. So, you can be fired, expelled or evicted if your boss, principal (school board) or landlord is homophobic and you can't do squat about it.

So, Yoshiki is likely just like so many others of his generation, following the beliefs of his parents without asking too many questions. That is, until his brother died and it was too late. I've seen the same thing happen here in this country. So, as much as I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, I also understand Yoshiki's thoughts. I don't agree with them, I just get where he is coming from.

Really enjoying your posts, you are always taking your time to fully elaborate on a subject. And while on the subject, due to everything you mentioned while I am most likely a hetero (maybe BI but in reality I haven't had a relationship with a woman so I can't be sure) I am really a supporter of the LGBT community (especially when I hear thing like "two men as parents?? Yack!" "Marriage, are you crazy"? ). I am really sad that sometimes even closed friends are making fun of a trans woman or a "feminine" man (not openly, if they did that I would not consider them good friends) but even in private conversations you see this element of shock or ridicule that comes automatically. People are sometimes so slow on change. For example I read a comment on "Megumi and Tsugumi" manga where someone wrote "well Omegas are protected and taken care of alphas so that's why they have lower IQ". I was in a state of shock. Someone actual thinks in 2020 that if a gender due to society structure depends for certain issues on another gender has lower IQ. IQ is based on gender and social conformities. We still have a long way to go.

You said It! Even in countries where homosexuality is accepted, there are still so many ridiculous, antiquated ideas. Now, imagine those places where homosexuality is seen as an abomination or worse, a crime. Humans like to imagine that they are somehow exceptionally intelligent, yet we hang on to silly notions that were thought up thousands of years ago by people who, intellectually, wouldn't pass a fifth grade entrance exam. Homosexuality has been observed in every thriving mammalian species on the planet. But you don't see sheep ostracizing members of their flock, or dolphins beating the hell out of members of their pod, or bears throwing other bears from clifftops for being homosexual. No, that is a privilege reserved just for us humans. So, which species is really the smartest? I, personally, wouldn't put my money on humans.
