idk how many times this has to be reiterated: jian yi and he tian are NOT brothers nor are they half brothers. they do NOT have the “same father, different mother” or any sort of blood relation. they’re friends.

- the night he cheng and qiu first tried kidnapping jian yi, on he cheng’s cell phone.. jian yi’s father was calling and on it he was titled as “Mr. Jian”. if jian yi and he cheng had the same dad, he would’ve been listed as “Father” or some other chinese nickname for father. and even if he had his father listed in a formal way it would’ve been “Mr. He”.
- if both boys were related they would have the same last name as their father ... it would be jian yi and jian tian but it’s not cause they’re obviously NOT related. he tian (and he cheng) have a different last name - aka “he” because they have a completely different father from jian yi.
- y’all need to remember that jian yi was abandoned by his father completely ~and that he tian and jian yi are in the same grade (about the same age), so why on earth would the father abandon only one child and not the other two (he tian and he cheng) and continue to be in their lives? that makes no sense. if it was the same dad, he would’ve left all of his children’s lives.
- also he tian came running to help jian yi the night his ACTUAL brother was trying to kidnap him, and as with other moments shown .. it’s clear he tian knows a lot about jian yi’s life connected to the mafia than even jian yi knows himself.. however he tian keeps it to himself. if they had the same father, there would be way more connections and obv hints .. and that would be pretty hard for he tian to hide.
- he tian at one point mentions to jian yi in the beginning of the story how jian yi is fatherless. he says it in a way that makes it clear they don’t share the same dad. he says it in a way as an outsider - not connected to jian yi’s family life as at all.
- even qiu talks about jian yi’s father in a separate way that’s not to imply he and he tian are related. and qiu clearly knows both he cheng and he tian personally and most likely both dads.
- also genes/lookwise they look nothing alike. if they were to have the same father, they’d at least HAVE SOME - even if it were one or two - similarities lookwise but they literally look nothing alike. and as we know, old xian likes to draw the siblings to look similar in some way (example: zhan zheng xi and his lil sis & he tian and his big bro).

jian yi and he tian are just friends. not brothers from another mother lol. hope this helped some people.

all we know is that both of their dads are in the mafia, and probably know each other through that in some way or other.

    Cousins?

they can’t be cousins either because then their fathers who would be brothers in this scenario would have the same last name and therefore he tian and jian yi would have the same last name as well (taking the last name of their dads as said earlier) but they don’t. there is no blood relation.

why? wouldn't make much sense either especially since he tian used to flirt with jian yi a lot in the beginning of the story. it would just be gross if the author planned for them to be related in some way.

they're just friends, you guys. idk why there is a desperate need to make them related. romance aside, I like that this story is about friendship (and making them family wouldn't make the bonds any stronger anyway). I'd understand if there was more proof for this theory but there is none - no solid evidence or basis for this. there is more that proves they're not that there is that does.

they just happen to have family involved with the mafia + they're friends. thats literally their only connection.
