Didn’t really show but in the last few chapters of TG at the underground tunnel Hide was carrying kaneki’s body which was beaten down and couldn’t regenerate because he had no energy left and he still had to fight arima by that time kaneki was already going mad due to hunger so Hide gave himself up for kaneki to eat (which he did..) but it didn’t show if kaneki ate him whole or not so it was assumed he was dead...
In RE:TG showed a mysterious character with a face fully hidden by a mask helping the good guys until half of his face was shone revealing to be Hide and when the whole thing came of it showed half of his face and neck devoured...(he didn’t have a mouth so a tube was placed in his throat to talk) lol of all things kaneki could’ve eaten he chose the mouth ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
