i live in malaysia!! the climate for lgbt here is so bad. gay is used as an insult and transness is used as a joke.
i see a lot of lgbt folk refer to themselves as queer here bc theres less repercussions but there are still many people who call themselves gay too, its just that queer is just as widely used as well. since gay is used more like a slur here by non lgbt people, personally i like using the word queer haha
Oh, Malaysia is mostly an islamic country, right? Maybe it's about the influence of the religious groups, just like we have it in Brazil with catholic church...
Queer has become a nice word, and it feels the group is getting bigger and bigger everyday :)
