to be fair its to do with their mind set the game was basically an escape from real life where he didn't want people to expect anything from him
while in the game he could be anything and becoming number 1 was like his whole life losing that was like losing his life the amount of time put into it then losing all that probably would have caused different mental illnesses like depression eventually making him commit suicide anyway
