They usually have three names: title, courtesy, and birth names.
For Wei Ying, his title is the Yiling Patriarch, courtesy name is Wei Wuxian, and birth name Wei Ying.
The first time I read the novel my reading comprehension was shit because I couldn't keep names straight so I literally had no clue what was happening. And it doesnt help that every character has like 3 names lol. After I watched the anime it straightened out everything for me and I was able to read the novel again and actually know what's going on.
I think I'm the only one getting confused with the names??
