He basically erased Athy's existence from his memories because he doesn't want to remember Diana. That's why it was easy for them to manipulate Claude's emotion to like Jennette.
More like they successfully manipulated Claude because he erased Athy's existence in his memories.

After they book ends the kingdom falls cause Claude made the wrong choice and hence the older brother who was supposed to be dead (the black haired man now) takes over the kingdom by somehow using jenette and from what I can see that white dog's little white puppy is with jenette just for the Claude's favor and because of his father's teachings .... Jeanette is just wrapped in a delusion of happy world /lovely world but that's is not the case - most of the things in her life are manipulated - the family she thinks she has is just using her and what little part of it is real will be santched away by her father ( the real one ).....
