Deadman Wonderland has a pretty similar premise with the non-humans and the mc's life changing after an event in his life. It's not as well known from my knowledge, and I enjoyed reading it.
Devilman is kinda similar too with the mc trying to harness their new abilities in a new world ("new world" as in not being human).
Psycho-Pass is a pretty well known anime, but it's a great watch and is plot driven.
I would say Tokyo Ghoul, but I'm assuming you've already heard of it, lol. It's also pretty similar in premise.
