Haha usually its just their breath that smells sweet so it probably wouldn't cover up whatever is going on with our MC but this isnt a bad idea actually. Adibaby's comment wasn't making fun of people with diabetes or DKA or making light of the disorder. They were just showing how a medical 'fun fact' is applicable to MC's circumstances.

It's not always just the breath it can come through the skin too. I have a family member who suffers from this.
I would just lie and tell everyone I was diagnosed with diabetes and that's why I smell sweet. And in case anyone thinks I'm joking, I'm not. Look it up it's a thing.
