Arata is a humanoid just like Ren but also has Ren’s memories and facial features, no Maki’s brother didn’t end up with Ren bc he is married and is straight which was why Ren was trying to get with Maki (bc Maki and his brother are twins so they look alike), Ren was cloned for Maki’s birthday courtesy of his friend that shows up here and there, i forgot his name, he didn’t go and see Arata bc he didn’t want to mess with the process of the unimprinting, Arata was not made until he was made for Maki’s birthday. Unfortunately, that's not accurate. Ren was a real human, and Arata is a humanoid based off of Ren. Seven years ago before the start of this story Ren sold his DNA and memories to be used for humanoid creation, but died during the extraction process. Maki and his friend who Maki used to work with arrested the people who ran that operation, but only found out after when they saw Ren's dead body at the faciliy what Ren had done. Now back to the present, Ren's DNA and memories which had apparently been sold off before Maki and his friend could arrest those people seven years ago, was used by another illegal group to make Arata, a humanoid. This time Maki's friend and old work partner arrested this new group and came across Arata, before he could be shipped out, and sold, and decided to give Arata to Maki. He jokingly used Maki's birthday as an excuse as to why he was giving Arata to Maki for safe keeping.
Also, Maki and his brother aren't twins. Maki says his brother is 2 years older then him, they just look a lot a like. (Chapter 2, Page 2)
But you're right. Ren never ended up with Maki's brother because he was straight and married, and so Ren used Maki as a substitute.
Does arata love maki...?
YES. Arata loves maki, that is why he came back.. Maki waited for 6 months after Arata woke up from the imprint cancelation, so he could be sure that the feelings Arata held for him were true..
Maki always felt insecure; to be compared to his brother and the fact that his love interest was in love with his brother and used him because he looked like him, didn't help to his self-esteem..

i'm confused with the hole Arata being Ren. Is Arata a robot or a real life living clone? didn't Maki's brother end up with Ren before he died. anyway why was Ren cloned in the first place? and one more thing why did Maki's not want to see Arata for half a year and where was Arata in that time was he with Maki's brother?(╯°Д °)╯╧╧
