spoiler for not readers and anime watchers: in manga he died BUT in the anime his status is official not known/alive !!!! you can see that in the official website from mappa who created that anime banana fish. First his picture was gray and he was in that library and then they changed it into an other picture of ash it waa colourful and he looked all right
Yeah but the anime is the adaptation for the manga, even if they left it open in the anime, there's never going to be a season two of banana fish bc ash died in the manga, the manga ended when ash died and the anime can't make an ova of the ending scenes of eiji moving back to America because of ash since the anime made sure to make it ambiguous
