I have some similar cases too... not till that extreme tho; in my case, that person has changed pretty considerably compared from when I was a toddler...
It's not just fiction, it actually happened to my next door neighboor, the girl was going through chemo and the husband got some ramdom girl pregnant... though he knew what was happening with his wife!
