So, I just realized that I read Kan-Chan’s backstory a while back and I’m shaken. I didn’t think when Kan said he hit his past lover, that he meant this. I just figured he hit his lover once or twice in a spurt of anger. I don’t hate Kan, but I definitely do not sympathize with him like I did before. I see all these comments about how they feel bad for him. I get that. But he knew that he was causing pain to Yumi but he still stayed in the relationship(but so did Yumi ig). Okay, okay, I’m not gonna keep rambling on.. but those were just my thoughts. Comment yours if you want , lmao I wanna know..

Yes, I agree so much! I read the stories backwards, that is, I started reading Kan's first, and I thought just like you: maybe he punched his past lover during fights once or twice and now feels bad about it (which, although still bad, is easier to accept). Then i got to this story and I see ~~this~~ was the kind of abuse he was talking about and I just ????? I could never read Kan's story after this, I lost all sympathy I may have felt for him there and then. Imo he didn't deserve such a nice ending when he didn't repent at all (oh he cried a few times alright, but never ACTUALLY paid for his sins). Sorry for the rant-reply #-.-)

BEFORE YOU READ I RECOMMEND READING “AZAMI” I MAYBE (?) SPOIL SOME OF ITS CONTENTS BUT THE STORY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHERE I AM COMING FROM AND UNDERSTANDING KAN CHAN. SORRY AND THANK YOU...

I can understand your opinion completely, in fact mine was the same at one point. But have you read “Azami” yet by any chance? That story is the story of Kan and Yumi together after high school and before Mayama comes back and it shows everything he has been through that pushed him to that point. He had years of suffering bc of how much he cared for others from supporting his sister, to loving Yumi (who he knew was always hung up on someone else), to his bosses who spent years traumatizing this boy fresh out of high school. I’m not justifying his actions in anyway because they were downright horrid, but I don’t think he was ever a horrid person. Even in this story, Yumi wasn’t the one to end the relationship, Kan was, and Kan did it while breaking down bc he knew he was becoming horrible and he didn’t want to hurt Yumi anymore. Yes, it was terrible he hurt him in the first place but he was strong enough to end the relationship before it got even worse. Reading “Azami” you can see just how bad his situation was becoming up to this point and even the triggers that finally pushed him off the edge. But rather than labeling Kan as unforgivable I think looking at what changed him is more important. From this story, his continuation with Shuuna, and especially his story in “Azami” you can see that Kan was never a bad person, he truly cares about others extremely and pushes himself for them, to the point he pushed too far and broke and then he went on to punish himself harshly for it. He is not an evil person and I find his story the saddest of them all, he was much more mentally broken than any other character and he never received proper help in all those years.

Sorry this turned out so much longer than I meant... but to anyone who hates Kan I rlly recommend reading his whole story esp “Azami” to understand why (I think) he is someone who truly deserves a second chance.

Oooof, thank you for telling me about “Azami”.. I feel like I understand the situation a bit more than I did before reading that. He seemed like he was traumatized (not sure if that’s the best word to describe it?) from working so hard along with the daily abuse he was receiving. I honestly feel so bad for both parties, they both deserve happy endings and I’m glad that’s what they got. Though I don’t agree with what he did, I believe he didn’t mean it and that he is a good person. Anyways sorry this is kind of long, but thank you again for telling me about this!
