long ramble

alright im tired both physically and mentally rn but i read this while i was feeling like that (idk. to relieve stress? but reading the last chapters gave me heartache instead lmao) so Imma just leave this long ramble here to let out feelings. yeah.

alright. so I was about to read bokura ga koi wo ushinau riyuu. I remember reading the first few pages of this a long time ago but I kinda stopped and forgot about it. I stumbled upon it again earlier, but then I got cut off again bc I went to read this (yukidoke) first since it was referenced. (lmao i swear I'll read it. later...)
so yes I read this.

mhm. first story was good. yeah. it was really cute and bittersweet at the same time, but all that ended up in a happy ending so it really brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart (alright ignore my cheesy choice of words. im. tired.)
I mean, all the angst was just so painful and sweet at the same time ghhngngn (I make no sense at this point) so I was ok.

and then the last one-shots... I... I don't know... why are they... gawd. I feel like sensei (mangaka) felt that all the potential angst in the first story was mellowed out by the happy ending, so they put it all in the extra 2 chapters here. i mean... why would they do that...
the last 2 stories are just full of Pain. and i. felt that.

the coworker one. oh man. oh man. it has a potential to continue with a happier resolution, but the power of the one-shot is to leave us hanging and wondering and accepting that the story really ends there and it's up to our imaginations to give it a happy ending.

but then the last one... fuck... what the fuck... if I wasn't reading it on public transport but at home on my bed I would have bawled my eyes out. but im too tired to cry now... anyway.
here's my understanding of the last line:

"If the roots keep growing without fruit, let's make a fruit and come to an end."

There's a theme that's been prevalent in this whole book. And that is homosexual relationships seen as 'futile', thus 'fruitless'. If their love (the roots) just keep on growing stronger, without them having done or making anything out of it (the fact that they're both too scared to have a relationship, as well as the fact that society condemns such relationships), then they should just make a fruit (a single one, which means that they'll be 'together' for one time only, and let it come to an end. (they'll try to put an end to their feelings, by distancing themselves again.) It'll never be easy to do so, and the implication that they'll keep on hurting until the time they can forget is just... ╥﹏╥

yeah reading that pained me but I also just love stories like this. yeah im a masochist. (straight face). that was very long. I'll stop now.

Could also mean that they will go their separate ways once and for all to end their "fruitless" relationship so that they can be with someone who they will bear a "fruit" with later (like if the seme had a child with his wife, the the so-called "fruit" was bore, hence they should end their ambiguous relationship for once. Dunno depends on the mood orlf the reader hahaha
