Movie Tickets in Japan

Sooo I’ve been thinking about this for a while now: How do movie tickets work in Japan?

For example, in the parts of America I lived and been to (Bc idk or sure about places I haven’t visit) we think about the movie we want to see, look up the time, buy the tickets at the door, then see the movie.

But apparently, in mangas, there are tickets that expires? And seem to be able to go at anytime before they expires? Like does the movie just play when you show up with the tickets? What happen if the theatre is full?

And freshmen in Japan are like 15-16, how are they seeing a horror movie? Are there no maturity rating for movies in Japan?

Very confused. Please help explain.

I think it's a redeem voucher. My country has that too. Whenever a new movie comes out there'll be special events to promote the movie (usually on radio shows). They ask some questions relating to the movie and you call the radio station and answer their questions. If you got them right, they'll give you free movie vouchers that you can redeem anytime. Then, you give the voucher to the receptionist at the movie counter and pick the time you want to see the movie. The expire date is mostly to show until when the voucher is still applicable. Usually the vouchers come with 1+1 or sometimes more. When Captain Marvel came out my friend won a voucher and she can bring 3 other people with her so she asked me to come with her. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

About ages, idk but It's not that strict when it comes to horror movies i think? I remember I did watch some horror movies that was terrifying but not that scary (I just don't like horror movies in general) but that depends on how graphic they are, they sometimes censored some gruesome scenes in cinemas though.

The only movie I remembered that you had to show some id or anything that proves your 18 above was fifty shades of gray lol.
