Right? They could've separated but shared custody so one takes Xiao Lu one week and the other the next week or something. Even just seeing him once a month would've been better than just outright leaving your child behind
Idk. I see it a lot in mangas. I think its just easier for the author. To write them completely out, rather than have the child travel back and forth. Plus it gives the character a sad background story.
