I don't think he had any feelings for him expect respect and admiration, and I think what he meant is that he wanted to feel special from the person he admires alot and the thing he wanted that can't be bought with money is related to the previous leader and his loyal dog and his little brother and his cute boy "the other couple", When the previous leader gave the other seme the boy and said he'll be loyal pet or something
So what kiriya really wanted was a family or even one person he can belong to and feel attached to, because his family situation you can see thay clearly when he remembered how his stepmother protected her son and not him

I think Kiriya was looking for a place where he can belong coz his dad pretty much disowned him. He thought that being accepted by Katsuya into his yakuza family and being chosen as the next heir would give him a place to belong. But Katsuya died before formally acknowledging Kiriya as the next in line for head, and Kiriya ended up becoming head only because the brother didn't want the post. I think he mentioned in some panel right after Katsuya's death that he didn't want to get the position like this (because of Katsuya's death) but wanted to be chosen by him instead.

In those pages, Kiriya was wondering why could he never become the "special" person for the previous leader and get something from him that Katsuya-san could only give to him which also could never be bought with money (guessing love?). Kiriya wondering why he is never that one that gets chosen/ why can't he be anybodies number one (Katsuya-san is shown while he's saying those things).
So what's your guys thinking about this? Am interpreting this wrong and if yes, what was the real reason behind Kiriyas words? Thanks.
