Sorry, can you explain what you mean by juvenile? Like, how does a young gay college student act juvenile when in the presence of a society that shuns who he is? He is not allowed to freely be in a relationship with who he wants. Of course he doesn't know how to figure out how to like anyone. Relationships, especially LBGTQ+ relationships, don't come with a manual. There's no one to teach him to be in a relationship with another man, because with this recent update we can all see the intimate relationship he had with someone crumbled because said guy "still prefers girls".
I'm not trying to attack your post (sorry if I come off that way) I just want you to explain why Yuyang is juvenile and why you think his inability to act on his feelings to be a factor that makes his character less likable...
No one broke YuYang's arm to make him gay. It was his own life decision and I support that. What I do not support, is his lack of ability to make any form of personal commitment. He is certainly old enough to decide whether he likes someone or not. Not this cry baby woe is me stuff. Excuses don't cut it and they don't make relationships.
Quick question though, have you experienced what Yuyang has? Have you experienced being shunned because of who you are? Whether it be skin color, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Because if you have, I'd expect you'd have some empathy for what Yuyang is going through. Gay people have been persecuted all throughout history. Legally and socially. It's not that Yuyang is being a baby and indecisive. It is that Yuyang is afraid of being persecuted by his family, his society, and the person he loves. He HAS taken steps into a relationship before and it went badly so now he is hesitant. In my opinion, this reaction and effect is totally reasonable. It is not that he is lacking the ability to make forms of personal commitment. It is that all his personal commitments have failed him in the past. Yes, Yuyang does not trust himself and the relationships that he could form; however, everyone goes through that.
I don't know, we all view things from the filters of our own experiences so I can't really see this from your true perspective but this is how I feel.
Even if I answered your question it would not be empathetic enough or the wrong kind of discrimination etc so it wouldn't serve any purpose. I don't want to get into the mechanics of being gay or why, why, why. YuYang is a fictional character that is being presented as an immature and indecisive young man and I find him, after 77 chapters, totally irritating. Hence....he is still an MC who went from a 10 to a 1 in his appeal.
Wait, I just want to verify something... You wrote that you support Yuyang's decision of being gay... Do you honestly believe that he chose to be gay? That he could choose otherwise?
Well, I see where you are coming from but I don't agree.
I did not ask you to answer my question to equate your discrimination to Yuyang's. I asked you that question in order to see if you can empathize. Personally, I am a writer and to see readers fail to understand a character's struggle and empathize with that character and REAL PEOPLE'S struggles is mind blowing at times. You don't have to agree with me. You don't have to like Yuyang. You don't have to agree with his choices. But I hope you can empathize with his struggles and see Yuyang as a round character who does not live in a fairy tale. He is imperfect and fearful, unwilling to take a step further - like normal human beings. Of course he can be indecisive but there is reason for that and one should not fail to see why Yuyang has been characterized as such.
Your opinion has merit and I totally understand where you are coming from. He is a fictional character so we expect him to do things that are exciting and acceptable in fictional stories. We all wish he can simply will himself out from his fear and run towards his desires. But this fictional story carries the narrative of real people and thus it hauls along with it a relatively realistic narrative. I do hope you give Yuyang another chance because I and many other readers actually see Yuyang as an amazing character. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧ But if you don't, you are entitled to your opinion and I hope you the best in your reading quest!
