In my country, baby girls get theirs when they're just days old, so we don't remember anything about it and I've never heard of anyone being traumatized by it tbh. I also don't mind because I love piercings so I even got more when I grew up BUT I totally get why the idea itself of having anyone's ears pierced with no consent and just because they're babies is somehow disturbing. It's also heteronormative; girls get pierced while boys don't, all this so people is sure of the baby's gender, lol.
And this is a coincidence but Google recommended this article to me earlier and, man, this is so so SO wrong... https://amp.heart.co.uk/lifestyle/parenting/baby-ear-piercing-claires-children-screaming-pain/
Poor Guan-Shan. Anyone had their ears pierced as a baby by their parents or as a joke by friends or a sibling when you were drunk? Anyone not wear earrings after that? Anyone get regular ear lobe infections despite not wearing earrings?
