He did, but he just couldnt be “with her” because he knew it was wrong to be with someone who’s already engaged. Even if Etsuko loved him, as long as Etsuko is engaged, they will never have a happy ending, nor a future together. Thats why Misaki left. ‘Though the part where they talked about Etsuko not being able to bear a child would confuse anyone, because it seemed like that was the reason why Misaki didnt want to be with Etsuko, it wasnt, it was more of like a reason for Etsuko.

It really does get confusing.. Thanks a lot ur explanation cleared a lot of things..and I think that maybe etsuko liked the guy too and is guilty (don't know an appropriate word) not being able to bear a child, she is broken somehow and she's a more complex character than I imagined
What was his character about ?? Did he really like etsuko?
