Based on the lighter tone of this manga and the constant emphasis on how Makio and Wachi changed for each other because they are in love, I highly doubt it. I don't think this is going to have a tragic ending at all.
I thought white meant change/transition not necessarily death though it is a type of transition

i think he's gonna get hurt.... badly.
i mean, the last cover where he's dressed in white on white flowers... white means death in their culture. moreover, the second the said "you are the place i'm returning to, my home" it was dead obious... with the thick hints of this entire episode - that no one whould've cried if he died until now....
I wish i'm wrong though.... :(((((
