The MC Kinda Irks Me

Okay, so boom: The MC is annoying. Every time she talks to Millard, she's trying to find the "right" response, but the responses are all simplistic and barely mediocre. And all of the flowers/effects makes these elementary level statements even more lackluster. And other times she sticks her foot in her mouth by saying something straight up dumb.

Maybe I'm too used to "I will survive in this world" stories with witty, well-timed dialogue (you can just tell a lot of thought was put into characters, character interactions, and the severity of what it'll take to survive). The MC's are smart or have other strong personality traits. When they want to diffuse a situation they actually say something intelligent or witty to trap the other person, or to give themselves wiggle room to find a way out.

Areum is just too puppy-like and simple for my liking. I know she transmigrated in her school uniform, so only way her simplicity is acceptable is if she's a middle schooler, or at most 14-15 years old. That way it's believable that she's doing her best to survive the only way a kid would prob know how.

Is there really anything wrong with an unrealistic main character? I prefer a character who shows strength and cunning over a protag who is passive and unable to drive the story. Transmigrated protags are cool because they usually bring into the world a new dynamic that earns them respect. This is just a naive, mediocre protag.

I didn't say I liked a Mary Sue, I said I'm used to reading characters with a stronger personality OR they're witty and intelligent.

I literally said the only way it would be believable (aka REALISTIC) is if she's a middle schooler or at most 14-15 years old.
Young adults aren't dumb (yes, they are still immature and do stupid shit now and then, but so do grown ass adults). For the most part, they know a lot about the world this day and age. A LOT of major movements in history has happened because of young adults using their brain and wanting a change. Its more unrealistic to be so simple minded and childish. UNLESS she's legit a child.

It irks me that the characters don't really have much depth (they all seem lacking because of the simplicity of the MC). To be fair, its /kinda/ hard to tell since its still early, but I can just feel it from their interactions and the actual dialogue. Its all so mediocre. . . . .
So is this an adaption of a novel? It feels like they wanted to take bits and pieces from a novel and make it into a webtoon or something, and other things had to be left out or got glossed over. Like, its just lacking.
