I don't know if he's really concerned or if he's mad that maybe they will have the opportunity to live their sexuality has they want.
It seems like people told him harsh things like "he's not normal" and he ended up thinking that it's impossible for gay to be happy. And since he can't be happy, he does not want the others to be happy. Kind of selfish... does he want his friend to suffer ?
Yeah, that's the impression I had when I first read this chapter. He pissed me off so much. But after reading through the whole volume, it looks like it wasn't ill-intentioned back then. Probably just a thoughtless move on his part.
