i didn't finish reading so maybe it's that this came after but if I'm right; this character wasn't in the novel. So that's probs what they mean. (Cuz I'm p sure I got well passed all the events (in novel) before this lil apprentice gurl showed up (in manga setting) and she wasn't a thing in the novel, lol. So it seems the mangaka is throwing in their own new stuff.)
