my thoughts on the future of scanlation groups and mangago

Hm people pick up fujitsu's projects left and right at the moment even though she announced she is on a hiatus. But I also see other projects getting picked up recently even though the translators never stopped working on them and it's still updating once a month or so. When private livejournal groups were the thing we waited sometimes even up to a year for a chapter and it was a strict rule not to pick up a project someone else is working on. Even if it didn't get updated for years the groups would still ask for permission to pick it up.
It's well-meant and charitable that people take it upon themselves to update a project so the releases won't be so slow but I think what this will lead to is professional groups going private again... and getting into these groups is a whole 'nother obstacle... let me tell you that.
But then again, I get it. Back in the day super long manga chapters were released once a month or even half-yearly, now in the times of webtoon publishers super short webtoon episodes get released weekly. And it can be painful to wait for them especially with all the suspension and cliffhangers that webtoons have in contrast to well-rounded long manga chapters. Times are changing and things go faster but they also aren't as satisfying anymore, you just want more as soon as you finish the episode.
Another problem here is that the internet changed so much and mangago is a whole community now similar to SNS. And this community doesn't know the old ways of the groups who provide for them. Those groups are not really apart of mangago, they still work in their old ways within their own little communities on either a blog, discord, tumblr or livejournal.
It would be best if mangago would fucking finally name and tag the group that works on a project (like many other aggregator sites do now) and also put out a code of conduct (also for the comment section) so people know what's up. Mangago has so much power now in the realms of scanlation but they really do nothing with it.
And scanlation groups now maybe should try to work on less projects. Times change and people are more impatient than ever. And the future is micro. Smaller groups working on 1-3 projects it's where it's at now. There are amazing 'modern' micro groups (who formed on mangago) with only 2 people or so that only work on 1 project and they do amazing work and are super fast at the same time.
And we as readers should learn to be more patient. We live in times where there is an overabundance of not only free webtoons and manga but also music, movies, series, games, novels etc. And all of them are so easily available. There is really no time to get bored or to not find something else in the meantime.
And people who can't wait for the next update and wanna start translating themselves can always apply as a member of the scanlation group that is working on that project instead.

I had the same thoughts, but not the proper words to say it, so thank you for wording this so nicely!! personally, I think I will wait for Fujitsu to come back, since, at no offense to the translator, I have poor reading comprehension and struggled to understand what was happening in the chapter. I agree that it would be great if this site could name out the scanalate group!

thank you so much! i will wait for fujitsu too, nothing beats a good quality scanlation. but who knows if she is in the mood to still update after almost all of her projects are getting picked up.....
mangago really needs to name the groups and lay down some rules, as you can see even after we all said fujitsu is still working on it it still got updated. if there is a known rule of etiquette people will leave it, but without that people don't really care about etiquette.
