He was framed. You can see that after Chinwo left, he went out of the the room to smoke or something and he saw some guy running and panicking (this guy is actually Chinwo's friend or something) so he went to the direction the guy came from and saw the body, he check if the guy is still alive and that's when some dude show up and misinterpret, thus ending him up in prison for something he didn't do.
