He must've been sad for some reason and spewed out nonsense. No father could ever regret his beautiful dear daughter being born into thos world because of him. Go talk it out with him. Ask him if he really means it.
People can be materialistic but at some point they cave into primal feelings like they want a family and want to spoil them rotten. All of them regardless whether they have experienced it themselves or not
