Agree. None of their scenes together actually contribute to them understanding each other. They can't even communicate properly and it all just went back to square one. I bet the readers can't even recall the first half of the story where there are countless scenes where it seem like it would progress but then it turns out to be empty and pointless. Shows how ineffective the storytelling is. The author just throws some "deep" quotes by using his extra characters as a plot device and then somehow people claim it's realistic.
I saw some documents about China and the acceptance of gays there. This story is pretty realistic with how the outcome can be. I think this story can only be told properly if it is slow. You got to understand how things go in China to understand why Yuyang acts how he acts.
