I'm not against the piercing, but its just so sudden without any context. [methaporically] Like reading Viewfinder and suddenly finding out Asami got a yakuza tattoo on his back 8 chapters ago but it only now suddenly shows up in the sex scene. It was just sudden with no prior reference.
