The thing is the premise of this plot is cute. Having guys hall children through holding hands. It’s almost wholesome. Then in typical yaoi fashion we have rape to love. What the fuck. How could you make something so original and ruin it in less than a page of plot progression. Authors truly will go the laziest route in this genre and shoot themselves in the foot rather than stay firm in creating and relying on the strength of their original work.

YES THIS. I love the first couple. They were awkward but really genuine and the way it was an honest mistake was sweet. And they don't even conform to gender roles. But everybody else can get the fuck out. Do authors really not take into consideration the damage done by rape. This isn't just some i pushed you because I like yo bullying

I mean rape/abuse to love defines western female romance. It’s the most utilized trope from
even the time Fabio graced the covers of paperback romance novels. Sex sells unfortunately and most authors would rather create a plot they know has been widely accepted as the norm for romantic progression than change the status quo. It’s not simply an excuse of cultural difference, or the author’s ignorance. This is a systemic issue in how unfortunately for decades or even hundreds of years if I’m being honest of women only being allowed to express their desires and sexuality in violent spaces because they were never allowed the comfort of their own pleasure being acceptable. It’s an unfortunate truth of why we are desensitized to a plot like this. Many choosing to see such a negative act with positivity because the aggressor brings out our desires.

I noticed that rape/abuse is used as a means of drama and moving the plot forward. To many a rape is no more different than someone tripping you and then pointing and laughing. It's so desensitized that you get attacked for voicing displeasure in it. And it's crazy because you have a law and order svu which delves into the trauma and anguish that rape causes but in mediums like this it's used to bring the characters together quicker.
