But to expand more on their whole relationship, during HS, the two sort of become "fuck buddies" but it's more like jackoff buddies cuz this manga is surprisngly vanilla with the sex. The two get closer as friends while the childhood friend of yuudai isn't really actively part of the circle but he's there nonetheless, just has less time to spend with them since he got a gf. The two do act lovey dovey at one point at school but they ended up getting caught(yuudai kisses kakeru in an empty class), in the end, kakeru tries to drift away from yuudai so he doesn't get hurt by the rumour(but it seems like yuudai is hurt by kakeru doing so). It seems to be the 2nd time this happened with kakeru, like, being outed as gay so yeah.
Just before graduation, it seems kakeru stopped going to school and the whole group lost contact with kakeru until college where yuudai's childhood friend comes to announce his marriage. And it seems yuudai found out about where kakeru is from his friend or kakeru's mom as well.
