I know what you mean, and thats he should have said, but he said : if SOMEONE. As if anyone (decent enough) would be good. But nope he wants this exact person to love him back.
Basically MC makes it seems like what he wants is love, but thats wrong, what he wants is the cobra, no one else.
And it’s infuriating he dares say he just wants someone to love him when there is someone who probably still loves him. And the MC ran away from that guy, probably without a proper goodbye, and never felt guilty about it nor does he regret doing that.
