Im sure they want to continue to co exist with humans and they already cursed the royal family but he found a loophole Ellen. Its a battle of wits for now but if his highness forces an engagement their entire kingdom could loose the spirits blessings!
I mean, the words of the royalty are absolute and there are laws in their land of marriage between houses and statuses and such, I'm not sure how their rules work in this world but I'm pretty sure they want to avoid the whole " I know it is such a burden but for the people and the country yadda yadda yadda " from that prince.
