I think its because He is the editor and also a friend of the old man who is novelist. Sometimes novelist have to attend many event even if it's in the middle of his deadline. While on the move to places, he won't be able to do his works anyway, so won't it be better to spend it to get good sleep? Having a futon and pillow would be helpful.
