It was a perfect way to kill the story imo. Not that it make the story bad, but now it make it hard to care for the characters, it doesn't matter if they die in game they can just restart. Sure they lose the character when they die in game, but they can just make another.
So, the characters are actually playing an online game. The first chapters make it seem like it is the typical historical and supernatural wuxia/xianxia manhua, but nop.
For those wondering, the actual male lead is introduced in chapter 24, and the female lead in chapter 25, when it's revealed that they are playing a game.
