Around 7 years. In the beginning chapters when she picked him to be her knight, she asked when he joined and how long. He gave the age he joined and how long he has been there. Estelle is 11 so I did the math. Don’t remember the numbers he gave but I think I said 7.

That's right. I heard that ppl in Korea who read the original novel seem to be upset by this. Not only because the age gap but also his action in the story after this.
I read that spoil for a while so my memory might not be fully correct. But I remember that they said he is one of the ML that ppl don't like for this kind of novels (say, daughter of someone).
Honestly tho I'm not feeling ML vibes from him yet. Like its true I want to ship them because he seems like such a great guy, but considering Estelle's age and their relationship right now, he seems more like a guardian or the loyal knight that he is.
Do you happen to know what his actions were that upset the korean fanbase?
Tbh he kind of reminds me of Asisi in the Emperor's daughter because of how he sees Estelle which is probably part of why Im rooting for hin
From what I remember,
- He reject her first beacuse he think he is not good enough for her
- That kind of breaks Estelle
- He disappear without telling (the truth is he goes back to his family to get some title)
- There will be an incident cause our MC to be (fake) dead and Emiel became alcoholic + abusive
