eh, i don't thing it's toxic, more on "needs some work". they still try their best to be good for one another, but there are still insecurities and problems that need to be shared. unfortunately, relationships aren't easy and many real life couples repeat old mistakes and have to work through a lot to make their relationship work. since the author said she wanted to write about miscommunication, i think it'd take a while for them to finally change for the better
Miscommunication is what the author intended to write so
I think I never felt that before (well maybe with Caste Heaven, which is messed up beyond help), but this relationship is not healthy. Toxic even.
Especially Itonaga deserves better.
And I also might never have seen such a bad way of communicating. They didn't learn a thing from last time and keep going crazy over small stuff, which they could easily ask: "Hey, do you really want to go to the festival? If you'd prefer it we could also do something else." Easy.
