Basically there are three different "genders" besides m/f which is Alpha (superior) Beta (regulars) and Omegas (the ones that get a lot of shit dumped on them) so it's different from story to story but generally Omegas male or female can get pregnant and they have heat cycles. Alphas have...distinct dicks, like when a male animal ejaculates, a part of its penis swells up into a bulb, so if they ejaculate inside a female (or in this case an omega or a female), they're tied to them because they can't get their penis out. This must be to facilitate breeding ¯_(ツ)_/¯
