This reflect a reality in society, specially one that give a lot of importance what a person can and xan't do according the gender!
Before it was seen as anormal a woman who was good with the sword or as a soldier, imagine a woman and a kid being attacked and the woman saved the kid fighting like a man... probably they will see her as weird or even dangerous!
There was even some countries that it was a crime women being good with weapons... in Europe was with art and everything seen as natural for men, women that were good at art, music, etc... were seen as anormals and they even tried to stop them, they were male domains!
So yes... in this case is magic, it is natural that men know magic but it is weird a woman can use it!

There have been cases of racist people in the U.S. refusing the help of doctors and nurses just because they weren't white. So it's not all that surprising, just stupid.
Maybe US people can come to Malaysia because we have more than 4 races life harmony in this country. I bet they will have culture shock.
