She tried to kill him first in chapter 35. He hit her with the rock to stop her from killing him. That's why he said, "Please forgive me." He was trying to knock her out, so he could run away. When that failed then he negotiated. Besides he doesn't think she is a monster at all. He seems to just be confused cause the woman he has been sleeping with is a werewolf.
