I think that's because he wasn't sure if the uke really liked him and if the uke was willing to sacrifice his current life to be with him... he wasn't sure he could provide him with happiness... He wasn't sure if the uke would regret it... and he didn't know that the uke was looking for him, he said it himself...
Even so I prefer more confident seme, but we're all humans after all... ^^
The uke never really told the seme his feelings tho. He always acted annoyed whenever the seme tried to make a move. When the uke finally admitted he loved him, the seme was so shocked because he really didn’t know.

Hide for 5 years? That seems so cruel. He latched onto some woman and lived off her. Leaving the uke to wonder about his fate. Why did he do that? It saddens me that he gave up so easily on him. I guess that's real life. I kind of wish the uke had fallen for the friend that was there for him for 5 years.
